Professor Rajendra obtained his undergraduate medical degree from the National University of Ireland in 1988 and spent six years in the UK NHS. He is currently Professor of Medicine (Gastroenterology) at UNSW and Head of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Bankstown Hospital, specialising in advanced therapeutic endoscopy, large polyp removal, inflammatory bowel disease, and complex bile/pancreatic duct procedures.

He also focuses on gastrointestinal cancer prevention, inflammatory bowel disease, and eosinophilic/allergic gut disorders. An academically focused physician, Mudar has several publications with globally renowned research groups including the Mayo Clinic and Karolinska Institutet (Noble assembly institute). Mudar is one of few Australian PhD candidates in Gastro- oesophageal reflux disease and other related functional gut disorders under the supervision of Laureate Professor Talley. He has authored papers in prestigious journals such as the Lancet, Human Pathology, and Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He holds a Master in Public Health (Distinction) from the University of Newcastle and is an affiliate researcher with the NHMRC. He is a conjoint lecturer at the University of Newcastle.
